Hi Y'all! I am back after all my computer woes. First my desktop died so I was doing all my work on my MacBook then the hard drive died on it so I was borrowing my husband's laptop. It was stressing and depressing. But we got my new power supply installed and it's great.

We have a print today on RiptApparel. It is Shakespeare's birthday so this one is for him. It is called "What Fools These Mortals Be". A Shakespearean eyeroll. Collab with darthapo.

Help Golden Fish redux?

I had this idea when I woke up this morning that I could take my Golden Fish into Painter and give it a watercolor treatment so I did this test. I like it but I guess what I would appreciate an opinion on from you guys is would it be worth it to do this and then tone it in PS and submit it?

Here is what it looks like on cream. I tried it on white but for some reason it looks better on cream.

Thank you, monkeyswag, for your kind words and advice in the comments from the previous post. They really helped me. I just wanted y'all to see what the tiger looked like after I finished him in Painter. Maybe I am just a sucky toner? I did the change color mode to grayscale, then bitmap>halftones for each color but maybe I should have used different settings.

Anyways, I am off for Chinese food so maybe I will have an epiphany (I do like the chilis ;) )

I once did a tutorial for this effect and I really liked it. It was various shades of pink and my client used it in their magazine ads as a background to cute jumping cheerleaders. But I found this really fun new app called Livebrush that did this in minutes. Wow. It is an Adobe Air app. Free download. Addictive. (I warned you)

Have any of you guys ever taken the test that comes with the book "Discover Your Strengths"? You take this test that you can't really fudge the answers and then at the end you get your Five Top Strengths. It reallly nailed us in the results. My top one is Ideation. So I have ideas all the time. Too many ideas. Just sayin'.

ETA: just because I have a lot of ideas doesn't mean they're good ones.

I really did do something creative yesterday. I worked in Illustrator on my entry for the Egypt Derby. Not ready to post it yet. Still tweaking.

For today I used my new 8B pencil in my small watercolor book to sketch my cat, Spotticus (or Spot) while he was sleeping on my bed.

January 2 - Vaudevillian Voles

This is another current Shirt Woot Derby submission. (Things that start with V)

I like the way this tripped off the tongue so I did vole research (they are so cute but why do people take pictures of them dead?). Practiced drawing voles. Went into Illustrator and began illustrating them using the Pen tool. I liked the idea of them wearing those boater hats and I was trying to draw a meringue pie for some pie-in-the-face fun but it wasn't turning out right so I thought canes would work.

When I finished that, it still seemed unfinished so I thought I should give them some boards to trod.

I tried all the different shirt colors but loved it most on cranberry.
